Lunar Oven immagazzina i raggi solari del giorno per rilasciarli nelle ore crepuscolari e notturne.

E’ un forno, ma non il tipico forno a combustibile alimentato da legno, carbone, letame o gasolio; questo particolare forno è stato progettato per i paesi poveri e per quei nuclei familiari che non hanno disponibilità economiche per acquistare materiale per riscaldare. Il secondo punto importantissimo ha a che fare con l’inquinamento atmosferico.

Spesso l’utilizzo di fiamme libere o di apparecchi obsoleti causa pericolosi incidenti. E’ un problema ambientale perché il consumo di legname per questo scopo, anche sotto forma di carbone o carbonella, incentiva il disboscamento.

I risultati dei test effettuati su un prototipo di forno Lunar Oven hanno dimostrato il miglioramento delle condizioni di vita delle famiglie che attraverso il progetto hanno avuto la possibilità di costruire e utilizzare il forno solare: miglioramento delle condizioni sanitarie dell’aria all’interno delle abitazioni e risparmio economico per l’acquisto di combustibile.

Cos’è e come funziona

Un forno solare è lo strumento più semplice, sicuro, e conveniente per cucinare i pasti e purificare l’acqua. Lunar Oven, attraverso il suo sistema di lenti utilizza al meglio le radiazioni solari e, grazie ad un adeguato isolamento termico, consente di trattenere il calore assorbito senza fare alcun utilizzo di carburanti.

Lunar Oven è stato progettato per essere costruito con materiali semplici da trovare e molto economici: può essere auto-costruito dall’utilizzatore con una spesa minima, richiedendo la sola fornitura delle lenti e di un semplice manuale di istruzioni. Inoltre, grazie al suo particolare sistema di riscaldamento e isolamento, permette di accumulare il calore solare trattenendolo a lungo e consentendo l’utilizzo del forno anche nelle ore più buie (in assenza della fonte di calore).

Una volta portato in temperatura, Lunar Oven si mantiene caldo a lungo e, se esposto regolarmente al sole e gestito in modo corretto, può essere utilizzato in modo continuativo e per la sanificazione dell’acqua.

Da anni gli innovatori sociali che collaborano con SIT (SOCIAL INNOVATION TEAMS) viaggiano per portare, ove necessario, le loro competenze e professionalità. Giacomo Rossi, ingegnere aeronautico, innovatore, sperimentatore, viaggiatore ed eclettico progettista, al ritorno di uno dei suoi viaggi pone un problema e comincia a dare forma ad una soluzione. E’ passato poco più di un anno e il progetto ha preso forma, grazie alla collaborazione di ingegneri ambientali, energetici e gestionali, di ricercatori e volontari che hanno visitato luoghi poveri e non, studiato le soluzioni esistenti e parlato con chi il problema lo vive. una soluzione auto-costruita, nel rispetto del luogo in cui viene costruito, realizzabile in dimensioni differenti a seconda delle esigenze e con materiali reperibili in loco. Giacomo ha seguito e gestito il progetto e ora è pronto, con l’aiuto di Lorenzo Granato a testare il Lunar Oven e creare un manuale di “istruzioni” open che faccia decollare la diffusione del prodotto generando circoli virtuosi per le famiglie e le economie locali.
