Se è vero che stiamo attraversando un epoca, o meglio, un periodo di transizione, che sta portando questa generazione a gettare le basi per un futuro eco-sostenibile attraverso innovazioni e tecnologie green, è anche vero che questo cambio di rotta, probabilmente, sarà sistematico e non riguarderà solo l’ energia e la mobilità, ma anche come e cosa mangeremo e come ci vestiremo. Orange Fiber è una start up che realizza tessuti dagli scarti delle arance.
Un idea Made in Sicily
Si chiamano Adriana Santanocito ed Enrica Arena, entrambe siciliane, le fondatrici di Orange Fiber. L’idea nasce dall’esigenza di dare una risposta al problema dello smaltimento degli scarti dell’ industria agrumicola che, in Sicilia, ammonta a 700 mila tonnellate l’anno. Orange Fiber recupera le bucce delle arance, un sottoprodotto della spremitura, riutilizzandole per la produzione del filato. Il primo impianto per l’estrazione della cellulosa dalle bucce degli agrumi si trova a Caltagirone, vicino Catania, inaugurato nel 2015 e inoltre, attraverso le nanotecnologie, l’ olio essenziale degli agrumi viene fissato sui tessuti, permettendo il rilascio sulla pelle di Vitamina A e C.
